Chive blossom is the edible flower of the chive plant, a globe-shaped cluster of small purple or lavender florets that appears in late spring. It carries the same mild onion flavor as the leaves, with a slightly sharper, more garlicky edge, and is used raw as a garnish or broken into individual florets and scattered over salads, eggs, and soups for color and flavor. Because the blossoms wilt and discolor quickly once picked, they are best added just before serving rather than during cooking.
