Peppadew

Ingredients

Peppadew is a registered trademark for a variety of sweet piquanté pepper, small, round, and bright red, with a sweet-and-tangy flavor and a crunchy texture; the name is also used loosely, if technically incorrectly, as a generic term for pickled piquanté peppers of any brand. South African farmer Johan Steenkamp found the first plant growing in his garden in 1993 and later propagated it on farms near Tzaneen in Limpopo province. The peppers are hollowed, pickled in a vinegar-sugar brine, and typically sold jarred, often stuffed with cream cheese or goat cheese as an appetizer, or diced into salads, dips, and sandwiches. Yellow and orange cultivars exist, but the original red Peppadew remains the most common.
