My favorite bran muffins — A Haven of Chaos

Ingredients

• 4 cups bran flakes (cereal)
• 2 cups oat bran
• 2 cups boiling water
• 1 quart (4 cups) buttermilk
• 8 tablespoons (1/2 cup) butter, melted
• ½ cup applesauce
• 1¾ cups sugar
• 4 large eggs
• 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
• 5 cups whole wheat flour
• 4 teaspoons baking soda
• 1 teaspoon salt
