This is one of the first cookies I learned to make. The recipe can be halved and baked in an 8 x 8-inch pan, or a 9-inch pie plate. In my younger days
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening or 1/2 cup salad oil
- 2 cups brown sugar, packed
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chopped nuts
- 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)
