Queen Elizabeth Date Cake recipe by Salmah Dendar

Ingredients

• 1 cup chopped dates
• 1 cup boiling water
• 1 teaspoon bicarb
• 1 cup castor sugar
• ¼ cup butter
• 1 egg
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 1 ½ cups sifted flour
• 1 teaspoon b.powder
• Pinch salt
• Cream butter and sugar...add egg and vanilla and beat well...sift dry ingred and add to above...add date mixture...pour into greased pan..bake @180 for +-45 minutes...
• 5 tablespoon fresh cream
• 5 tablespoon brown sugar
• 2 tablespoon butter
• sprinkle nuts or dust icing sugar
