- 2 cups sugar
- 2 sticks butter
- 1 egg
- 3 cups flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp cloves
- 3 tsp soda (dissolved in 1 tbsp hot water)
- 3/4 cup chopped dates
- 3/4 cup chopped pecans OR walnuts
