Kentucky Cream from The Christmas Cook: Three Centuries of American Yuletide Sweets by William Woys
This frozen dessert is the recipe of Mrs. J. B. McCreary, wife of the governor of Kentucky in the 1880s. I have added rum, which greatly enhances the flavor.
Ingredients
- 4 whole eggs
- 4 egg yolks
- ¾ cup golden rum
- 1½ cups currants
- 4¼ cups milk
- ¾ cup sugar
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 envelope unflavored gelatin
- ½ cup chopped citron
- 2 tablespoons blanched slivered almonds
- 2 cups strawberry preserves
