Ingredients

  • 2 Roma tomatoes, diced
  • 1/2 cup white onion, diced
  • 3 tbsp. chopped cilantro
  • ¼ jalapeno pepper, seeded and diced
  • ¼ tsp. garlic salt
  • 1 lbs. lean ground beef (sub vegan protein or beans)
  • ¼ cup water
  • 3 tbsp. taco seasoning mix
  • 1/2 cup pepper jack cheese, shredded
  • 2 packages store bought or homemade pie/pastry dough (enough to make 12 – 6 inch hand pies)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp. water
  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Mix tomatoes, onion, cilantro, jalapeno and garlic salt together. Add to cooked beef.
  • Whisk egg and water together to make egg wash. Brush egg wash over the tops of the pies. (can use oil instead)
  • Bake on the middle rack until golden brown, about 20 minutes.
