Langbein, Spiced Sunday Pancakes with Coffee Syrup & Bacon

Ingredients

• 250mls espresso coffee
• 1/2 cup white sugar
• 1/2 cup soft brown sugar
• 1 vanilla pod split, or 2 tsp vanilla extract
• 1 cinnamon quill
• 3 whole cloves
• 1 cup mascarpone
• 2 tbsp icing sugar
• 1 tsp cinnamon
• 1/2 lemon finely grated zest of
• 1 tsp lemon juice
• 2 cups self-raising flour
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 1/4 tsp ground cloves
• 1/4 cup caster sugar
• 2 eggs
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 1 orange finely grated zest of
• 2 cups buttermilk
• 50g butter melted, plus extra to cook
• fresh blueberries or sliced fresh or poached fruit
• crispy fried bacon
