Creamy Homemade Tomato Soup

Ingredients

• 1/2 cup unsalted butter
• 1 medium onion, sliced
• 6 garlic cloves
• 1 bay leaf
• 1/2 tablespoon whole peppercorns
• 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
• 1 can Red Gold Canned Tomato Paste 6 oz
• 1 can Red Gold Canned Whole Peeled Tomatoes 28 oz
• OR
• 2 cans Red Gold Canned Whole Peeled Tomatoes 14.5 oz
• 1 can Red Gold Canned Petite Diced Tomatoes 14.5 oz
• 2 cups half & half or heavy cream
• Salt and black pepper to taste
• 1 (17.3 ounce) package puff pastry, thawed
• 1 egg, beat with 1 tablespoon water
