Ingredients: 2 cups chopped dates (I cut dates into 3-4 pieces depending on the size); 2 cups water, boiling; 2 teaspoons baking soda; 1/2 cup butter; 2 large eggs (beaten); 1 1/2 cups brown sugar; 1/2 teaspoon salt; 1 teaspoon vanilla; 3 cups all-purpose flour; 1 teaspoon baking powder; 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon (or spice mix); 1 1/4 cups chopped pecans
