• ¼ teaspoon salt
• For the apple pie spice mixture
• 2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
• 4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
• 1 teaspoon ground ginger
• 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
• ½ teaspoons ground cloves
• 1 teaspoon ground allspice
• For the cake mixture
• 11/3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
• ½ cup granulated sugar
• 1½ teaspoons baking powder
• ½ teaspoon salt
• 2/₃ cup warm milk
• 1 large egg, room temperature
• 6 tablespoons butter
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• confectioners sugar, to sprinkle
