Ingredients

• 1 1/4 cups unsweetened applesauce
• 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
• 3/4 cup light brown sugar
• 1 large egg, at room temperature
• 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 1/2 cup Dutch-process cocoa powder (I use Ghiradelli's or Hersheys)
• 1 cup semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chunks or chips
