• 1/2 c. boiling water
• 2/3 c. shortening
• 1 3/4 c. sugar
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 2 eggs
• 2 1/4 c. flour
• 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1 1/3 c. buttermilk or sour cream
• Frosting:
• 1/2 c. light flavor cocoa
• 1/2 c. medium flavor cocoa
• 3/4 c. dark flavor cocoa
• 2 2/3 c confectioners sugar
• 6 tlbsp butter
• 4-5 tbsp milk or water
