Ingredients

• 2 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
• 2 teaspoons Ziyad Brand ground ginger
• 1 and 1/2 teaspoons Ziyad Brand ground cinnamon
• 1/4 teaspoon Ziyad Brand ground cloves
• 1/4 teaspoon Ziyad Brand nutmeg
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 3/4 cup (170g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
• 1/2 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
• 1/4 cup granulated sugar
• 1/3 cup Ziyad Brand Iraqi style date syrup
• 2 teaspoons Ziyad Brand vanilla powder
• 1/3 cup granulated or coarse sugar, for rolling
