• 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (or more if you want it extra chocolatey)
• 1 tablespoon sugar (or more if you'd like it sweeter)
• 1 1/4 cup milk, whatever kind you prefer
• 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
• a pinch of salt
• Optional - 1 to 2 ounces of brandy or rum
