Sweet & Sour Meatballs - Andrew Zimmern

Ingredients

• 1/2 pound ground pork
• 1/2 pound ground veal
• 1/2 pound ground chicken
• 1 egg plus one egg yolk, beaten
• 1/3-1/2 cup coarse toasted bread crumbs
• 1/3 cup minced shallots
• 3-4 tablespoons buttermilk
• 1 teaspoon sea salt
• 1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper
• 1 cup vegetable oil
• 1 cup pineapple juice
• 1/4 cup cider vinegar
• 1/2 cup rice wine (sake is great)
• 1/2 cup brown sugar
• 3 tablespoons soy sauce
• 1/3 cup tomato ketchup
• Several pinches of chile flakes
