Mexican tortillas perfect for fajitas, quesadillas, Mexican pizzas, burritos, nachos. They freeze well. Just stuff them with anything you may have on hand! I learned this from watching my mom in Mexico.

I was going to call this a barley salad with parsley, dill and hazelnuts, but it is really a parsley salad, like a Middle Eastern tabbouleh The relatively small amount of barley contributes substance and a wonderful chewy texture, as do the hazelnuts I prefer it on the lemony side so I use 3 tablespoons lemon juice, but I’ve given you a range.

Cake flour, a low-protein flour that is available in supermarkets from Boston to Chicago, north to Seattle and down to Los Angeles, makes a fine biscuit with a delicate, silken texture that does well with syrups and runny fried eggs.

The idea for this hearty, risotto-style soup came to Frédéric Morin while he was sitting on a combine in his uncle's barley field. He could smell the peat from the neighboring farm, which reminded him of Scotch whisky.

This is a nice soup recipe with a lot of texture and flavor. It is a welcome change for those weeks when there doesn't seem to be a lot of variety... and all 3 of my kids even loved it. This can also be cooked in a pan on the stove until the barley and carrot are tender, but I prefer the slow cooker method. The flavors seem to blend better.
