Bangers and mash is a British dish of grilled or pan-fried sausages ("bangers") served over mashed potatoes, usually with onion gravy. It is a classic pub and home comfort food across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The sausages are typically pork, beef, or a blend, seasoned with sage, thyme, and black pepper; "bangers" is believed to reference the way high-water-content sausages could burst when cooked during World War I meat rationing. The mash is boiled potatoes, mashed with butter and milk until smooth. Onion gravy is made by cooking sliced onions in stock and thickening with a roux.

Accompaniments vary by region and household; mushy peas or baked beans are common additions in England and Scotland. The dish is also easily adapted with specialty sausages (Cumberland, Lincolnshire, vegetarian) or flavored mash.
