Blueberries are small, round, blue berries native to North America, eaten by Indigenous peoples long before European settlement. The United States and Canada remain the primary growers, concentrated in the northeastern states, the Pacific Northwest, and the Canadian Maritimes, with commercial cultivation now spreading to Europe, South America, and Asia.

Blueberries are used in baked goods (pies, muffins, scones), breakfast dishes (pancakes, waffles, yogurt parfaits), and, less commonly, savory dishes like salads and sauces. Their flavor is sweet and slightly tart with a faint floral note, pairing well with other fruit, dairy, and herbs and spices such as thyme, rosemary, and cinnamon.

Blueberries are a good source of dietary fiber and antioxidants, particularly anthocyanins, which also give the fruit its color.
