General Tso's Sauce

Sauces & Condiments

General Tso's sauce is the sweet, tangy, and mildly spicy sauce used to coat General Tso's chicken and similar Chinese-American dishes. It is typically made from soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, cornstarch, garlic, ginger, and chili, giving it a balance of sweet, sour, and umami flavors with a mild lingering heat. The sauce is added to already-fried chicken or tofu and briefly stir-fried so it clings to the crisp coating rather than soaking in. Beyond the classic dish, it also works as a marinade for shrimp or pork, a dipping sauce for spring rolls and dumplings, or a glaze for roasted or grilled meats.
