Sweetened Coconut

Ingredients

Sweetened coconut is shredded or flaked coconut meat combined with sugar and a bit of moisture, which keeps it soft; this distinguishes it from unsweetened desiccated coconut, which is dried and has no added sugar.

It's used across many cuisines: in Southeast Asian dishes and desserts, in Caribbean baked goods and candies, and in American baking, where it's common in cakes, cookies, macaroons, and as an ice cream topping.

Sweetened coconut has a sweet, nutty flavor and a chewy texture, and pairs well with tropical fruit (pineapple, mango, papaya), dairy (yogurt, ice cream), chocolate, and caramel.
