White Port

Sauces & Condiments

White port is a fortified wine from Portugal's Douro Valley made from white grape varieties, commonly Malvasia Fina, Códega, Gouveio, and Viosinho, instead of the red grapes used for standard port. It is typically served chilled as an aperitif, on its own or in a White Port and Tonic, rather than after a meal like tawny or ruby port. In cooking, it adds sweetness and depth to sauces, marinades, and desserts, and pairs well with seafood, poultry, nuts, and dried fruit. Depending on aging, its flavor ranges from honeyed and nutty to notes of stone fruit, balanced by a refreshing acidity that keeps it from tasting cloying.
