Ingredients

• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 2 eggs
• 1 cup molasses
• 2 level tsp. baking soda
• 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
• 1/2 cup butter
• 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
• 2 tsp. ground ginger
• 2.5 cups sifted flour
• 1 cup hot (not boiling) water
