Ingredients

• 4 large eggs
• 1/3 cup matzo meal
• 1/2 cup vegetable oil or chicken fat
• 2-1/2 tsp. salt or to taste
• 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. pepper, preferable white
• 2 tsp. baking powder
• 3 pounds potatoes
• 1 large onion, cut lengthwise into eights
