Beef and Guinness casserole

Ingredients

• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 1 kilogram chuck steak, trimmed, cubed
• 1/3 cup seasoned flour
• 4 rashers rindless bacon, chopped
• 3 carrots, sliced
• 3 stalks celery, sliced
• 1 bulb fennel, trimmed, sliced
• 1 onion, chopped
• 2 cloves garlic, crushed
• 2 potatoes, peeled, chopped
• 2 bay leaves
• 4 sprigs fresh thyme
• 440 millilitres can guinness
• 2 cups beef stock
• 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
• crusty bread, to serve
