• 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
• 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more, to taste
• 1/2 teaspoon pepper, plus more, to taste
• 2 cups half-and-half or evaporated milk
• 1 1/2 cups ham, cooked and chopped
• 1 cup cheddar cheese, freshly shredded, plus more, optional, for garnish
