Stout Cast Iron Skillet Irish Soda Bread - Recipes - Hasty Bake Charcoal Grills
This simple soda bread recipe is even better in a cast iron skillet baked on the Hasty Bake! The charcoal flavor really compliments the Guinness stout and rye
Ingredients
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 1/2 cups rye flour
- 1 1/4 self-rising flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/3 cup butter, chopped
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 cup stout beer
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
- Prepare Hasty-Bake for baking at 400 degrees
- Rub cast iron skillet with butter
- Sift the dry ingredients together in a bowl, except for the brown sugar
- Cut in the chopped butter
- Stir the brown sugar in with he flours and butter
- Make a well in the center
- n a separate bowl, whisk the buttermilk, stout beer, and egg. Add to the well and stir until dough forms
- Kneed gently on a lightly floured surface until smooth
- Form dough into a round ball and place in buttered cast iron skillet
- With a sharp knife, cut a cross into the top of the dough
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden and hollow sounding when tapped on the top
- Irish soda bread is best if served the same day
