• 4 cups mixed dried fruit
• 3/4 cup glace (maraschino) cherries, halved
• 3/4 cup chopped almonds
• grated rind of one lemon
• 2 1/2 tbsp brandy (optional)
• 2 1/4 cups plain flour
• 1 1/4 tsp mixed spice
• 1/2 tsp grated nutmeg
• 3/4 cup ground almonds
• 1 cup butter or margarine
• 1 cup soft brown sugar
• 1 tbsp black treacle (dark molasses)
• 5 eggs
