Healthy Date Cake - Eating With Zion
This Healthy Date Cake is a perfect toddler & baby dessert, only sweetened with dates. The result is a light, fluffy, delicious, healthy cake!
Ingredients
- Tumblr
- Naturally sweetened with whole fruit
- Soft and moist texture for little mouths, you can use it as a 1 year old smash cake recipe!
- No refined sugar or overly processed ingredients
- Dairy-free and can be made nut-free depending on milk choice
- A great way to introduce iron-rich dates into a child’s diet in a fun, familiar format
- Babies & toddlers : Serve plain or with a sliced banana gently pressed on top before baking. When serving 9-12 month old baby, cut it up into smaller pieces, so it’s easy for baby to eat.
- Older toddlers : Sprinkle in a few mini chocolate chips to make it feel like a treat.
- Adults : Add chopped walnuts and chocolate chips on top.
- Dates : The star sweetener. Use Medjool or Deglet Noor dates. I don’t recommend replacing the dates in this recipe.
- Avocado oil : A healthy, neutral-flavored oil that gives moisture without overpowering flavor. Substitute : Olive oil, melted coconut oil, or even a mild vegetable oil will work just fine.
- Eggs : Help with binding and fluffiness. Substitute : For egg-free version, use flax eggs (1 tbsp flaxseed meal + 3 tbsp water per egg), though texture may be slightly more dense.
- Non-dairy milk : Almond milk, oat milk, coconut milk all great options to keep this dairy-free. Substitute : Regular whole milk works great.
- Vanilla : Adds a nice vanilla flavor, I don’t recommend replacing it in this recipe.
