Ingredients

• 270 g (2 ½ cups) plain flour
• 1 tsp ground cinnamon
• 1 tsp ground allspice
• ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
• ½ tsp ground ginger
• ½ tsp ground cloves
• ¼ tsp ground black pepper
• ½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
• 125 g unsalted butter, soft
• 90 g (¾ cup) soft brown sugar
• ¼ cup molasses
• 1 egg
• 2 cups icing sugar
• 3 – 4 Tbsp hot water
