Ingredients

• 4 yellow onion thinly sliced
• 1/4 cup (60 mL) butter
• 1 tsp (5 mL) sugar
• 3 tbsp (45 mL) all-purpose flour
• 4 cups (1 L) beef broth
• 1/4 cup (60 mL) red wine
• Salt and pepper to taste
• 4 slices of French bread toasted
• 2 cups (500 mL) grated Canadian Emmental cheese
