• 24 to 30 whole cloves
• 1 1/2 cups packed golden brown sugar
• 1 1/2 tablespoons dry mustard
• 5 tablespoons bourbon whiskey, plus 1 tablespoon for the sauce (optional)
• 3 1/2 cups apple cider
• 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
• Pinch of cayenne pepper
• 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
