A fall favorite, apple pie is one of America's best-loved desserts. Today we give this American favorite a Mexican twist by using piloncillo instead of sugar. P
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
- 4-5 tablespoons cold water
- 1/2 lb piloncillo (substitute with brown sugar)
- 3/4 cup water
- 2 teaspoons lemon zest
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 2 1/2 lbs medium apples, peeled, cored and cut into 1/2 inch wedges
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons water
- 2 tablespoons egg wash (1 egg beaten with 1 Tbsp. water)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
