Surprise Filling Apple Pie

Ingredients

• 2 frozen deep dish pie shells ((9-inch))
• 1 tablespoon sugar
• 1 cup walnuts or pecans, finely ground in processor
• 3 tablespoons brown sugar
• 1 large or 2 small eggs, lightly beaten
• 1 tablespoon butter, melted
• 1 tablespoon milk or cream
• 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
• 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 6 cups sliced and peeled tart apples ((approximately 6 medium-large apples))
• 1 tablespoon lemon juice
• 1 cup sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 3 tablespoons flour
• 1-1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
• 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
• 1/8 teaspoon salt
• 3 tablespoons butter, cubed and chilled
• 2 teaspoons milk
• 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
