Ingredients

  • 8 ounces (225g) spaghetti
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 can (14 ounces/400g) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 ounces/170g) tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped, for garnish (optional)
  • In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large skillet or saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, and sauté until fragrant and translucent, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the ground beef or Italian sausage to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces with a spoon or spatula.
  • Once the sauce has thickened and cooked for 20 minutes, taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
  • Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet with the sauce. Toss well to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce.
  • Serve the spaghetti in individual bowls or plates. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil or parsley, if desired.
  • Enjoy your delicious traditional spaghetti!
