Ingredients

• 1 canola oil, for cooking
• 454 g fresh italian sausages (2-3 large)
• 1 small onion, chopped (optional)
• 2 garlic cloves, crushed
• 60 ml dry red lentils
• 798 ml can whole tomatoes, with their juice
• 500 ml tomato sauce or puree
• 15 ml butter
• 250 g dry spaghetti
• 1 freshly grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
