• 4 large apples, cored and grated
• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon soda
• 1/2 teaspoon salt

• 1 teaspoon nutmeg
• 1 cup chopped nuts (optional- I leave them out)
• SAUCE:
• 1 cup water
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 1 tablespoon cornstarch
• 2 tablespoons butter
• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
