Horst Mager's Original Lentil Soup recipe - from the The Haynie Family Cookbook Family Cookbook

Ingredients

• In a large sauce pan saute:
• 3 oz diced bacon
• 3/4 C diced carrots
• 3/4 C diced onions
• 3/4 C diced celery
• Stirring constantly add:
• 3/4 C flour
• When flour has blended with the above mixture, slowly add 3 1/2 qts water stirring constantly.
• Add:
• 1 C dry lentils
• 1 tsp salt
• 2 bay leaves
• 1 tsp white thyme
• 4 tbs beef base
• 1 pinch nutmeg
• pinch white pepper
• 3/4 C diced potatoes
