Reposado Tequila

Sauces & Condiments

Reposado tequila is blue agave spirit rested in oak barrels for a period set by Mexican regulation: at least two months and under one year, longer than blanco (unaged or only briefly rested) but shorter than añejo (aged one to three years). That oak contact softens the raw agave bite of an unaged tequila with light vanilla, caramel, and wood notes, without masking the agave character as much as the longer-aged añejo and extra añejo styles can. Production is confined by law to the Jalisco-centered Denomination of Origin region. It's commonly sipped neat or on the rocks and used in cocktails, marinades, and sauces where a smoother tequila is wanted without the heavier oak of an añejo.
