Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature (2 sticks)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup well-shaken buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
- Grated zest of 1 medium orange
- Grated zest of 1 lemon
- 1/2 cup coarsely chopped brandy-soaked prunes (see below) or Prunes in Armagnac (see accompanying recipe)
