• 1 1/2 sticks of salted butter
• 1/4 cup breakfast syrup
• 1/2 sweet apple, like Fuji or Gala finely diced
• 1 French baguette, cut into 1 1/2 inch slices (day old is best)
• 1 3/4 cups milk
• 3/4 cup heavy cream
• 8 large eggs
• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
• 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
• 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
• Dash of ground clove
• 1/2 cup candied pecans or walnuts, ground or crushed
