- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

- 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda (baking soda)
- 6 cups (900g) plain (all-purpose) flour
- Royal icing and decoration
- 1 egg white
- 1 1/2 cup (240g) pure icing (confectioners') sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice, approximately
