• 1/2 cup plus 2 teaspoons sugar
• 1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon Kirsch (cherry brandy) or Amaretto
• 8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature
• 2 large egg yolks
• 1 large egg
• 1 teaspoon almond extract
• 1/2 cup unbleached all-purpose flour, sifted
• 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
