Ingredients

• 1/2 cup softened butter
• 1/2 cup shortening
• 1 cup confectioners' sugar
• 1 egg
• 1-1/2 tsp almond extract
• 1 tsp vanilla
• 1 tsp peppermint extract or 3 drops of peppermint essential oil
• 2-1/2 cups flour
• 1 tsp salt
• 6-8 drops red food coloring
• 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candy or candy canes
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar
