Cooking tools:

  • Mixing bowl
  • Fork
  • Measuring cup
  • Measuring spoon
  • Spoon
  • Serving bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mielie meal
  • 2 cups water
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • 60g butter + 1 tablespoon
  • 1 cup full cream milk
  • ½ tin creamstyle sweetcorn,
  • ½ teaspoon ground green chillies,
  • Aromat (a South African Spice) to taste,
  • Pinch garlic paste,
  • Grated gouda cheese.
  • 1. Mix mielie meal with water in a microwave safe bowl.
  • 2. Cook for 5min.
  • 3. Remove from microwave. Fluff with a fork.
  • 4. In another bowl, warm milk and butter and mix together.
  • 5. Pour into mielie meal and mix in.
  • 6. Place back in microwave for another 5-10min, or until the liquid has absorbed, without drying the pap out. Check at 5min, mix and put back in if needed, which I usually do.
  • 7. Remove from microwave, checking that it is cooked, soft and not gritty.
  • 8. Season with salt and pepper, adding in the additional 1 tablespoon butter if desired, mix in and serve.
  • 9. Season with Aromat (a South African Spice) to taste, then mix in garlic, chillies, corn & cheese.
  • 10. Mix in whilst hot.
