My Grandma, Ethel Johnson, used to make these often. A pan of them never lasts long at my house! The recipe originally came from a Scandinavian cookbook.

- 2 - egg yolks
- 4 tablespoon(s) cold water
- 3 pound(s) tart baking apples -- peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1 cup(s) sugar
- 2 tablespoon(s) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon(s) salt
- 4 tablespoon(s) butter, sliced into pats
- ## FOR FROSTING:
- 1 cup(s) powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoon(s) heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon(s) pure vanilla extract
