- 300g (10½oz) golden caster sugar
- 3 eggs
- 3 bananas, plus 1 sliced for decoration
- 9–12 Medjoul dates, pitted and chopped
- 100g (3½oz) milk or dark chocolate, broken into pieces
- 350g (12oz) self-raising flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
