• 3 pounds bone-in chicken pieces (split breasts cut in half crosswise, drumsticks, and/or thighs), trimmed
• Salt and pepper
• 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons cornmeal
• 5 tablespoons olive oil
• 1 onion , chopped fine
• 3 garlic clove , minced
• 1 tablespoon chili powder
• 1 cup dry red wine
• 1 1/4 cups chicken broth
• 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
• 1/3 cup sliced almonds , toasted
• 1/3 cup pitted green olives , chopped coarse
• 1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro
