• 1 (2-ounce) link hot or sweet Italian sausage , casings removed
• 2 garlic cloves , minced
• 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes
• 1/8 teaspoon dried oregano
• 1 1/2 cups canned crushed tomatoes (see note)
• 6 ounces spaghetti , broken into rough 2-inch pieces
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1 1/4 cups water
• 2 tablespoons heavy cream
• 3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh basil
• 1/2 cup shredded Italian cheese blend
